China's state-owned broadcasting group CCTV will once again broadcast Premier League matches from the start of the 2022-23 season, which begins on 05/08/2022. This is the first time since July 2020. CCTV has reportedly acquired the rights to broadcast two Premier League games per matchday in China on a free-to-air basis over the 2022-2025 cycle, according to several British media outlets.

During the 2019-20 season, CCTV broadcast two live Premier League game per matchday on its CCTV 5 channel and two other matches via the channel's app. These rights had been sub-licensed to PPTV (Suning Group), a Chinese internet and mobile streaming platform, which held the Premier League rights in China for the 2019-2022 cycle before the contract was terminated due to non-payment on 03/09/2020.

CCTV did not broadcast any Premier League matches during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. Discussions with the English league have been hampered by the Chinese group's "slow decision-making" and diplomatic tensions between the UK and China, according to British media.
