LLDC (London Legacy Development Corporation) has agreed to pay an additional £35.9m (€45.5m) to fund the transformation of the Olympic Stadium into a football arena, stated the agency responsible for the conversion of the enclosure used for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, on 22/10/2014. The agreement was reached with the British Balfour Beatty Group, in charge of the renovation work.

This increase is due to the additional costs of the new roof, which will cover all of the spectators. The initial amount of the renovation was €95.5m net, it is now expected to be €241m. "These costs will be funded by the additional revenue that we will generate through the modernisation of the enclosure," said LLDC. The project provides a reduction in capacity from 80,000 to 54,000 seats. The original cost of building the stadium for the 2012 Olympics was €600m.

  • "No additional fees will be charged to the taxpayer to fund the current project," said the LLDC.
  • The stadium will host the British Athletics Federation. It will also host five matches of the Rugby World Cup in 2015.
