Bundesliga: sale of 20% of media rights postponed to 2023 for lack of consensus among clubs (press)

The DFL has postponed the sale of 20% of the domestic and international media rights to the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga to investors until 2023, due to the lack of consensus among the 36 German clubs, according to information reported by the news agency Reuters on 05/12/2022.

The DFL is seeking to sell these rights through the creation of a commercial company that would hold all of them, as reported by the US business and financial news website Bloomberg on 22/08/2022. The League has appointed German bank Deutsche Bank to lead the deal, which is also working with Japanese financial services company Nomura Holdings, a long-time adviser to the DFL. The trading company would be valued at €18bn in total, giving investors a maximum stake of €3.6bn (20%).

The DFL's original target was to close the sale process in March 2023, however the deadline for indicative bids has now been extended to the first quarter of 2023, according to Reuters.
