France: league takes up the match-fixing case, indicts six individiuals

"Given the gravity of the alleged facts, the disciplinary commission decided to take up the case of the suspected match-fixing in Ligue 2 during the 2013-14 season. The commission subsequently appointed a lead investigator in charge of this issue," stated the disciplinary commission of the LFP (French Professional Football League) on 20/11/2014.

Six people, including Jean-Marc Conrad, president of Nîmes Olympique (Ligue 2) and Jean-François Fortin, president of SM Caen (Ligue 1), have been indicted in connection with the investigation of several matches played at the end of the 2014-15 season by Nîmes, with the club suspected of having managed to stay in Ligue 2 via match-fixing.

The six indictments:

  • Serge Kasparian, shareholder of Nîmes, for bribery
  • Kasparian was imprisoned in Fleury-Merogis (Essonne) in October 2014 as part of the investigation into the Cadet circle (gaming circle) in Paris.
