Reform of the Argentine championship: a single phase with 30 clubs from February to December 2015

30 teams will participate in the 2015 Argentine Primera División (first division), which will be played from February to December 2015, announced the Executive Committee of the AFA (Argentine Football Association) on 25/11/2014.

A total of 30 matchdays will be played; each team will play the other 29 teams once (no return matches), plus a special matchday of "Clasicos," with each team playing, for the second time, an opponent chosen on the basis of geography or historical rivalries.

The 30-team Primera División will slowly be reduced (see below) until there are 22 teams in 2019-2020. There are two objectives to this operation. First, to broaden the geographic footprint of the Argentine first division to have more clubs outside Buenes Aires. And secondly, to ultimately increase the number of teams in the championship to 22 (up from the current 20 team format).
