Club World Cup: after a poor organisation, the Moroccan Sports Minister sacked

Mohamed Ouzzine, the Moroccan Minister of Youth and Sports, was dismissed by King Mohammed VI, following an investigation into the poor conditions of play during the 2014 Club World Cup (in Morocco, from 10 to 20/12/2014), on 07/01/2015.

Two matches, Cruz Azul (MEX) - Sydney FC (AUS) 3-1 a.e.t., and Auckland City (NZL) - Setif (ALG), 1-0, were played in torrential rain and on waterlogged pitches, due to "defects" in the drainage systems, on 13/12/2014. Citing an emergency, FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), the organiser of the competition, relocated the Real Madrid CF (ESP) - Cruz Azul (MEX), 4-0, semi-final match to Marrakech on 16/12/2014.

  • Renovation of the stadium in Rabat (Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex) for the 2014 Club World Cup cost €20m.
  • A "complete and thorough" investigation established "a direct political and administrative responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as that of the company (who directed the work), in the faults recorded at achieving this project," and especially "defects in the implementation of water
