Paramount: $26bn takeover bid from Sony Pictures Entertainment & Apollo (press)

Sony Pictures Entertainment (US subsidiary of Japanese group Sony Corporation) and the US investment fund Apollo Global Management have made a $26bn (€24.15bn, as at 06/05/2024) offer to buy the US conglomerate Paramount Global, according to daily The Wall Street Journal on 02/05/2024.

This offer comes at a time when US production company Skydance Media was in exclusive negotiations with Paramount to also buy the conglomerate's businesses. However, this period ended on 01/05/2024. Paramount is owned by the American company National Amusements, which operates cinemas in the United States, the United Kingdom and Latin America.

Paramount Global itself owns the CBS audiovisual group and the Paramount+ streaming platform. It owns the English-language broadcasting rights in the United States to the men's European club competitions (Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League) until 2030, to the Serie A TIM (2021-2024) and to the NFL (2023-2033).
