"Clubs understand that their number one priority will be to keep their stadiums full. Last season we had record attendances with an average of 36,695 fans per match and an occupancy rate of almost 96%," said Richard Scudamore, chief executive of the Barclays Premier League on 10/02/2015, following the sale to Sky and BT groups of seven lots of TV rights to the Premier League for €6.92bn for the three seasons of 2016-2019 .

The Premier League awarded lots A, C, D, E, and G of its 2016-2019 domestic audiovisual rights (126 matches per season) to the British pay-TV group Sky plc. (Sky Sports) and lots B and F (42 matches per season) to the British telecommunications group BT (BT Sport channels), on 10/02/2015.

"[The clubs] understand they have to encourage the younger generation [to attend] and make sure the younger fans are encouraged and clubs will continue to do that," added Richard Scudamore on the Premier League website.

"The Barclays Premier League [...] contributed £3bn (€4bn) in tax revenue to the UK Government over the past three seasons." (R. Scudamore)
