"Nowadays, the English pay a lot because they have a real product. Ligue 1 is on the same level as what the English are exporting. In France, we did not want to draw a line between excellence and amateur football, and this is the result," said Michel Seydoux, president of LOSC Lille (Ligue 1), following the sale of the 2016-2019 rights to the Premier League to the groups BT and Sky TV for €2.3bn per season, an increase of 70.2% compared to what was paid by the two groups over the 2013-2016 period.

The 2016-2020 audiovisual rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 were awarded for a total of €2.994bn, or €748.5m per year, to the groups Canal+ and beIN Sports on 04/04/2014 .

"The Premier League really will receive €2.3bn per season. As for us, when we talk about €750m, it is not good because it means that only €500m goes to Ligue 1," added Michel Seydoux in La Voix du Nord on 20/02/2015.
