"The CAF (Confederation of African Football) has automatically and I would say nicely agreed that they will not organise (the Africa Cup of Nations) in January 2023," said Jérôme Valcke, Secretary General of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), the day after the third meeting of the Task Force on the organisation of international calendar from 2018 to 2024 in Doha (QAT), on 25/02/2015.

During its meeting of 24/04/2015, the Task Force FIFA has "identified the late November - end of December period of 2022 as the most viable time for the organisation of the 2022 World Cup." The 2023 AFCON will be organised by Guinea, and was originally scheduled for January 2023, a few days after the end of the 2022 World Cup which would be held from 26/11 to 23/12/2022 (dates to be determined at the FIFA Executive Committee meeting on 19 and 20/03/2015).

"They will have to postpone the African Cup of Nations to June 2023 to avoid that there is a release of the African players for the World Cup and two weeks after for the African Cup," stated Jerome Valcke on 25/02/2015.
