"It is difficult to give a precise figure, but if we look at the amount of TV rights of the Premier League and we make some adjustments, if there were no piracy, we could generate an amount between €2bn and €2.5bn," said Ignacio Martinez, the director of strategic development of the LFP (Spanish Professional Football League), on the subject of the TV rights of the Liga BBVA, on 10/03/2015.

"Spanish football lost €509m due to piracy in 2014, with a total of 139 million views of matches on illegal streaming sites by 1.8 million Spanish households in the course of the year," says a report from the CCEC (Coalition of Creators and Content Industries), which was carried out in collaboration with the LFP and presented on 10/03/2015.

"We are making considerable efforts to fight against piracy because the stakes are incredibly high. Football is a form of entertainment but, if we do not protect it, we could have real problems. People have the impression that piracy is almost legal, but users should start to wonder where the money earned by illegal streaming sites goes," added Ignacio Martínez.
