FIFA: $209m to distribute to the clubs for 2018 and 2022 World Cups, three times the 2014 figure

"Based on the model developed for the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, a total of $209m (€193m at the conversion rate of 20/03/2015) will be distributed among the clubs releasing players to the participating teams in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The same amount has been agreed for the 22nd edition to be staged in Qatar in 2022," announced FIFA on 20/03/2015.

This $209m amount is triple the triple the $70m (€64m) that was distributed by FIFA to clubs for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. $40m was distributed to clubs during the 2010 edition in South Africa, the first in which the club compensation model was used.

The agreement was signed by Joseph Blatter, the president of FIFA, Jérôme Valcke, the secretary general of the world body and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the chairman of the ECA. It is intended as "recognising the importance of clubs’ contribution to global football structures," stated FIFA.
