CAS: court cancels sanctions against Morocco, who may participate in AFCON 2017 and 2019

"The CAS has issued its decision concerning the appeals procedure initiated by the FRMF (Royal Moroccan Football Federation) against the CAF. The CAS panel has upheld the appeal in a large proportion. The sanctions imposed by the CAF on the FRMF have been set aside, with the exception of the fine, which is however reduced to $50,000 (€46,000 on 02/04/2015)," announced the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 02/04/2015.

The CAF had decided, on 06/02/2015, to suspend Morocco for the next two editions of the AFCON (African Cup of Nations) in 2017 and 2019, and impose a fine of one million dollars (€882,000), as well as to charge the FRMF the sum of €8.05m in compensation for material damages suffered as a result of the decision of the Moroccan Federation not to organise the AFCON 2015 because of the outbreak of the Ebola virus. The FRMF appealed the sanctions on to the CAS on 17/02/2015.
