Ligue 1 TV rights: no court ruling on the DAZN-LFP dispute before 28/02/2025

The Paris Economic Activities Court is "reserving its decision" on the dispute between the Ligue de Football Professionnel and the OTT platform DAZN over payment for the domestic TV rights to the Ligue 1 McDonald's, and will issue its order on 28/02/2025, according to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 14/02/2025.

DAZN, which holds the domestic TV rights to eight live games (out of 9) per matchday in Ligue 1 over the 2024-2029 cycle for an average of €400m per year, has only paid 50% of its February instalment (i.e. €35m gross out of €70m) for these rights. The platform has placed the remaining €35m "in escrow" pending an agreement with the LFP. According to L'Equipe, the LFP will draw on its reserve funds to pay the clubs while awaiting the court's decision.

Noting DAZN's "unfounded refusal to honour its financial commitments" the LFP has "decided to refer the matter to the interim relief judge in order to obtain, as a matter of urgency, an order that DAZN pay the sums provided for in the contract and that it be ordered to perform all of its contractual obligations," announced the…
