"If the World Cup will stay at 32 teams, then CONCACAF should have four teams," said Joseph Blatter, the president of FIFA, at the 30th Ordinary Congress of the confederation of North America, Central America and the Caribbean, in Nassau (Bahamas) on 16/04/2015.

CONCACAF currently has three direct qualifying places for the World Cup and one play-off place. Four teams from this geographical area participated in the 2014 World Cup (Brazil, 12/06 to 13/07/2014): The United States, Costa Rica and Honduras qualified directly, while Mexico, qualified after a two leg play-off against New Zealand (Oceania, 9-3 on aggregate).

"An extraordinary Executive Committee meeting will take place on 30/05/2015 in Zurich (SUI) after the FIFA Congress, with the new composition of the Executive Committee, to discuss the slots for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups," announced FIFA on 20/03/2015. In 2014 in Brazil, 11.4% of the CONCACAF federations were present in the final stage, compared to 60% for CONMEBOL and 24.5% for UEFA.
