Formula 1: a 26% reduction in carbon emissions between 2018 & 2024, with a net zero target by 2030

Formula One has reduced its carbon emissions by 26% since 2018 and "is on track to achieve its target of becoming net zero by 2030," announced Formula One Group on 23/07/2025. The body had launched a plan in November 2019 to achieve carbon neutrality for all its activities (cars, on-track activities, logistics, offices and facilities) by 2030.

The progress made, which has reduced the impact of the 2024 season by 60,000 tCO2e compared with 2018, is the result of "collaboration with the Formula 1 teams, promoters, partners, and the FIA," according to F1, which points out that, at the same time, three races have been added to the calendar since 2023, bringing the number of Grands Prix to 24 (compared with 21 in 2018).

While race-related emissions are up slightly (247 tCO2e more than in 2018) due to changes in the calendar, the impact per race is down by 12%.
