"TPO is used by clubs as a means of funding, either through a loan or through co-ownership, particularly in South America (Brazil, Argentina, and so forth) and, within Europe, mainly in Spain and Portugal. In spite of the risk, the size of the gains actually makes it a very lucrative business for the investment funds which own many promising young players," said Joëlle Monlouis, a specialist in business and sports law, in an analysis for News Tank on 05/05/2015.

"During the FIFA Executive Committee meeting on 25 and 26/09/2014, it was decided to ban the ownership of players' economic rights by third parties 'to protect the integrity of football and players'.
