AFC: Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa re-elected president, also becomes a FIFA vice-president

Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain), 49 years old, was re-elected president of the AFC for four years (2015-2019) at the 26th Ordinary Congress of the Asian confederation in Manama (Bahrain), on 30/04/2015. He was the only candidate for the position.

This is a second term as the head of the AFC for Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa; he had been elected to the presidency for two years on 02/05/2013, at the conference held in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). He replaced Mohamed Bin Hammam (Qatar), who was banned for life by FIFA in 2011 for violating its code of ethics.

With this re-election, Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa also becomes a FIFA vice-president. The elections for the post of president of the AFC and FIFA vice-president had been separate since 2010, but were merged following a vote of the representatives of the 46 member associations (44 in favour, 1 against and 1 abstention) during the extraordinary congress of the AFC, in São Paulo (BRA), on 09/06/2014.
