Canada 2015: Women's World Cup to generate €235m in economic activity for host country (study)

The 2015 Women's World Cup, which begins on Saturday 06/06/2015 with the opening match between Canada and China in Edmonton (kick-off at 16:00 local time, 18:00 North America East coast time, midnight 00:00 CET), is estimated to generate $267.3m (€235m) in economic activity for the host country, according to a study by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance in collaboration with many tourism offices around the country, including Tourism Vancouver -- the office of the city which will host the final of the competition on 05/07/2015 -- on 29/05/2015. British Columbia, the province which contains the city of Vancouver, expects $52m (€46m) in economic activity related to the tournament, or 20% of the total.

More than one million tickets have already been sold for the tournament, according to organisers, who hope to surpass 1.5 million tickets sold -- or 28,850 spectators per match (52 matches total).
