A total of 52 central referees have been selected for the 2026 World Cup, FIFA announced on 09/04/2026. Brazil and Argentina are the only two countries to have three central referees appointed for the competition.

They are part of a group of 170 match officials - including 88 assistant referees and 30 video match officials - drawn from six confederations and 50 countries. This represents the largest contingent in the history of the competition, in line with the expanded format (48 teams and 104 matches, compared with 32 teams and 64 games previously).

The selected officials will form the “FIFA Team One” for the tournament. A ten-day preparation seminar will be held in Miami (USA) from 31/05/2026. Video match officials will then relocate to Dallas (USA), where the International Broadcast Centre will be based, while referees, assistant referees and support staff will remain in Miami.
