Spain: record 127,242 registered female footballers in 2025-26 (+15.8% compared with 2024-25)

Spanish women’s football recorded a record total of 127,242 registered female footballers in the 2025-26 season, up 15.8% compared with 2024-25 (109,874), Liga F announced on 19 June 2026.

The number of female players has even increased by 89.5% in four years, as Spain had 67,149 registered female players in 2021-22, the season before the creation of the Spanish professional women’s football league.

"This impressive growth reflects the dynamism of the entire women’s football ecosystem and coincides with the professionalisation of the competition, the creation of Liga F and the efforts made to provide women’s football with a stronger, more visible and recognised structure," the league added.

Football is therefore the sport with the second-highest number of registered female players in Spain, behind basketball (163,770 players).
