AFC: general secretary Alex Soosay (Malaysia) resigns under allegations of concealing evidence

Alex Soosay (Malaysia), the general secretary of the AFC, announced his resignation on 17/06/2015. He had been suspended from duty since 13/05/2015, following the emergence of a video in which a former employee of the AFC stated that, in 2012, Alex Soosay asked him to conceal evidence in the form of documents relating to payments ordered by Mohamed Bin Hammam (Qatar). A former president of the Asian confederation, Mohamed Bin Hammam was banned for life by FIFA in 2011 for violation of its code of ethics.

"Alex Soosay has tendered his resignation as AFC General Secretary with immediate effect. The Asian Football Confederation would like to thank Alex Soosay for his commitment to Asian football during his extensive 20-year-long career at the AFC and wishes him all the best for his future career," stated the AFC on 17/06/2015. Alex Soosay had held the position of general secretary of the Asian confederation since 2008.
