UEFA: Croatia sentenced to 1 point deduction and 2 matches behind closed doors after racist incident

The UEFA CEDB (Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body) sentenced the Croatian Football Federation to two matches behind closed doors, a €100,000 fine and a one point deduction as a result of racist behaviour during a qualifying match for Euro 2016, the European body announced on 23/07/2015.

These measures are due to the presence of what appeared to be a swastika on the grass of the pitch inside the Stadion Poljud in Split (CRO) during the match against Italy on 12/06/2015 (1-1, Matchday 6 of Group H for qualification to Euro 2016).

  • The Croatian Football Football has three days to appeal the decision of the UEFA CEDB, though it was not made clear whether these days "business days", or include Saturday and Sunday.

Note: as of 27/07/2015, the standings have not been updated on the UEFA website since the ruling, so Croatia have now been reduced to 13 points but remain in first place in the group, ahead of Italy who have 12 points.
