Algeria: the federation bans professional clubs from recruiting foreign players

"Given the financial difficulties, the inability to obtain foreign currency legally to pay salaries and training and solidarity fees, as well as the unscrupulous actions of some foreign players' agents and other football stakeholders, the federal office decided to halt the recruitment of foreign players for professional clubs," announced the FAF (Algerian Football Federation), following the meeting of the federal office on 25/07/2015.

Until this decision, clubs from the Mobilis Ligue 1 (Algerian first division) were allowed three foreign players in their squad and two on the pitch at any given time. About 30 foreign players are currently under contract with the 16 Algerian professional clubs; these players can remain in their current club until the end of their contract.

"Professional clubs should review their squads in order to save money, especially as the number of unused players is continuing to increase and the wage bill is becoming exorbitant," stated the FAF.
