The German sports equipment manufacturer adidas will replace the Reebok brand, which it owns, as the official equipment supplier of the NHL from 2017-18, according to the Canadian pay-TV channel TSN on 17/08/2015. adidas will pay $70m (€63.3m) per season, which is double the amount paid by Reebok to the league ($35m per season, or €31.6m) to develop and produce the jerseys of the 30 North American franchises.

adidas bought Reebok in January 2006 for $3.8bn (or €3.23bn at the time). The adidas logo will appear on the jerseys of all the NHL players, which was not the case before. Nike, who will become the official equipment supplier of the NBA from 2017-18 until 2025-26 for $111m, or €98.8m, per season, will also see their logo appear on the jerseys of the players, a first in the NBA.

"Maybe with the adidas striping (three stripes logo) on the shirts, it would be a time to introduce ads" (according to a league source quoted by TSN)
