Suspicions of match fixing: the Spanish LFP launches an investigation

The Spanish LFP (Professional Football League) has opened an investigation, looking into Deportivo La Coruna's 4-0 victory against Levante on 13/04/13.

Suspicions come from Levant player, Javier Barkero who accused his teammates of lacking commitment at half-time when his team was already losing 3-0. He complained in particular about Juan Luis Gómez López (Juanlu), Juan Francisco García (Juanfran) and Sergio Ballesteros (all Spanish) and the Uruguayan, Gustavo Munúa.

Javier Barkero has since retracted his statements but the Spanish League has already confirmed that the investigation is open. "We investigate all matches where there are suspicions, with the help of all tools at our disposition," said a spokesman for the LFP.

Javier Tebas Medrano, President of the Spanish LFP since 19/04/2013, made the fight against match-fixing a priority: "We must solve the problem. If someone tells me something, I will pass on the information to the police and anti-corruption government investigators. We will do our best to help shed light on these matters," he told Marca, the Madrid daily newspaper…
