Germany: German police raid DFB headquarters regarding €6.7m "slush fund" for the 2006 World Cup

German police have conducted early-morning raids on the headquarters of the Deutscher Füssball-Bund (German Football Federation) amid allegations of tax evasion and/or financial fraud, on 03/11/2015. The criminal inquiry relates to an investigation from the German newspaper Der Spiegel relating to a payment allegedly made in 2005 in the successful bidding process to host the 2006 World Cup.

"Prosecutors in Frankfurt have opened investigations on suspicion of serious tax evasion linked to the awarding of the 2006 World Cup and the transfer of CHF 10.3m (€6.7m at the time) by the organising committee of the DFB to the FIFA football association,” the office of the Frankfurt prosecutor said in a statement.
