FIFA: extradited to the USA, J. Maria Marin (BRA) pleads not guilty and is released on bail

The Brazilian José Maria Marin, former executive member of CONMEBOL and the former president of the Brazilian Federation, pleaded not guilty in a court in New York (USA), on 03/11/2015. He was released on bail for $15m (€13.7m). His next court appearance is scheduled for 16/12/2015.

José Maria Marin is the second of the seven leaders arrested in Zurich (SUI) on 27/05/2015, with a view to extradition to the United States, to have accepted his extradition, on 28/10/2015. "He is accused of having taken bribes worth millions of dollars from sports marketing companies in connection with the sale of marketing rights for the Copa America tournaments for 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2023, and for the Copa do Brasil for the period from 2013 to 2022. His actions are said to have resulted in funds being diverted from two of FIFA's continental confederations, as well as from the national football association of Brazil," said the Swiss Federal Office of Justice (FOJ), on 28/10/2015.
