FIFPro to take transfer system row to court

On 19/04/2013, Philippe Piat, president of FIFPro Europe, the international players union, announced that the organisation are to file a complaint with the European Court of Justice against FIFA to show their discontent about the current system of transfers.

FIFA has a 'stability clause' from when the transfer market was reformed in 2001, however Piat says that neither FIFA nor football clubs have taken it seriously.

If FIFPro get their way, a new law could be passed that would mean clubs could only sell a player at a price fixed by them for the first three years of that player's contract. After the third year, the player would be allowed to leave as a free agent; all he would have to do is pay his former club compensation for the salary he would have incurred for the remaining years on his contract.

Philippe Piat sent Sepp Blatter, President of FIFA, an email warning him of the union's planned legal action, in a letter dated 25/03/2013.
