FIFA: "Football has a unique duty to society to act where it can" (Issa Hayatou)

"Football could never pretend to offer solutions to the world’s political problems, but -- as the world’s most popular sport -- it does have a unique duty to society to act where it can," said Issa Hayatou, acting FIFA president, in his column in the FIFA Weekly, the weekly magazine of the international federation, on 20/11/2015.

Issa Hayatou had written, on 14/11/2015, a letter to "witness to the solidarity of the international football community" to Noël Le Graët, president of the FFF, following the terrorist attacks that killed 129 people and injured 352 in Paris and close to the Stade de France in Saint-Denis (north of Paris), on 13/11/2015.

"No football game is worth more than a life, and we support any decision taken by authorities in the interests of security. But we have also seen that our sport has the power to bring people together in the most difficult of times," the Cameroonian, who replaced Joseph Blatter as the head of FIFA after his suspension for 90 days on 10/08/2015, in his column on 20/11/2015.
