Premier League: parachute payments to increase from €56m to €70m

News Tank Football - Paris - News #5756 - Published on

Under an agreement signed on the 17/04/2013 between the Premier League and the Football League (who control the Championship, League One and League Two), clubs relegated from the Premiership will now receive €70m over four years, instead of the €56m that they currently receive - an increase of 25%.

After relegation from the Premier League, clubs will now receive €27m in the first year, €21m in the second and €11m in the third and fourth. These 'parachute payments' aim to offset the significant decrease in revenue following relegation (TV rights, tickets, sponsorship etc.).

This new agreement, valid for three years, will take effect at the end of the 2013/14 season.
