"At the moment there is a banana-republic system; it's the old thing about politics, patronage and payola. It's about sinecures and people in positions of authority for virtually their whole life," said Chris Eaton on 06/01/2016.

Chris Eaton is the former head of security at FIFA, for whom he served between 2010 and 2012. Since then he has been working as the director of sport integrity of the International Centre for Sport Security in Doha (Qatar).

"Let's look at some examples where money was invested in the national development of the game -- Sri Lanka for example, Thailand, or Trinidad & Tobago -- these have been homes to very influential members of the (FIFA) Executive Committee. They have never expanded beyond very low levels of ranking in the sport. This is despite very high levels of funds spent there. It is not spent on the game but on administrators, and sometimes for their personal enrichment," added Eaton.

With the US Department of Justice investigating FIFA in what it describes as "the most complex corruption case" in history, here Chris Eaton talks to News Tank Football…
