FIFA: American John Ruggie will make proposals for "embedding" human rights into the organisation

American John Ruggie, an international expert in human rights and professor at the Harvard University Kennedy School, has been charged by FIFA to "provide recommendations for further embedding the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) into the FIFA’s policies and practices", announced the international federation, on 14/12/2015. John Ruggie will list the proposals in an independent report to be delivered in March 2016.

The FIFA Executive Committee had decided, on 20/07/2015, to recognise the guiding principles of the UN for human rights, and to require its contractual partners to also respect them. The Executive Committee also revised the application process for future World Cups, in particular by integrating notions on respect for human rights.
