Manchester United: "The current playing style is not what we want to see" (H.Hainer, adidas)

"Business with Manchester United FC (Premier League) is going very well, we sell more shirts than expected. We are satisfied... even if the current playing style of Man United is not exactly what we want to see," said Herbert Hainer, CEO of adidas to the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, on 03/01/2016.

The German brand replaced Nike as the English club's official equipment supplier in July 2015. The contract includes a record payment of £750m (€942) to the club over a period of 10 years (2015-16 to 2024-25). The contract between adidas and Manchester United is "marks a milestone for us when it comes to merchandising potential. We expect total sales to reach £1.5bn [€1.89bn] during the duration of our partnership," said Herbert Hainer, in July 2014.

Manchester United generated £31.6m (€42.7m) in merchandising revenues during the 2014-15 season.
