FIFA: Sheikh Salman again accused of human rights violations in 2011 by Bahraini institute in London

Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, AFC president and candidate for FIFA president, has been accused by BIRD, the Bahraini Institute for Rights and Democracy, based in London (ENG), of having been involved in violence organised, with the help of Saudi Arabia, during the popular uprisings in the emirate of Bahrain in February 2011. While president of the Federation of his country, Sheikh Salman is alleged to have involvement with, if not directly then at least with his knowledge, of retaliatory acts conducted against athletes who protested in the uprisings which demanded more democracy.

BIRD has alerted, by mail, the main sponsors of FIFA of these allegations. The president of the Asian Confederation has always denied the accusations. FIFA must communicate, no later than 26/01/2016, the final list of FIFA presidency candidates eligible in the voting, one month before the elections to be held in Zurich (SUI) on 26/02/2016.
