"For the election of the President, two-thirds of the votes of the Members present and eligible to vote are necessary in the first ballot. In the second and any other requisite ballot, a simple majority (more than 50%) of the valid votes cast is sufficient," states Article 27, Paragraph 3 of the FIFA Statutes, regarding the election of the president of the international federation.

If the 209 national federations affiliated to FIFA are present in Zurich for the Extraordinary Congress on 26/02/2016 and all are eligible to vote, a candidate must obtain -- assuming no blank and/or spoiled ballots -- 140 votes (two-thirds of the votes) to be elected in the first round. The number of votes needed in the second round depends on the number of votes cast (a simple majority of over 50% of the vote, excluding blank and/or spoiled votes). Thus, again assuming all 209 votes are cast, 105 votes will be necessary to win election in the second round.
