FIFA: Sevilla, Santos, Sint-Truiden and Twente punished for breaching third-party ownership rules

Sevilla FC (ESP), Santos FC São Paolo (BRA), Sint-Truidense VV (BEL) and FC Twente (NED) have been sanctioned by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for breaching the rules of third party influence and / or ownership of the economic rights of players by third parties (TPO), announced the international federation on 29/03/2016.

The ban on TPO, in Article 18bis of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, came into force on 01/01/2008. Article 18bis was amended on 01/05/2015, with the inclusion of Article 18ter, which prohibits ownership by third parties, said FIFA (see below).

"FIFA takes this opportunity to reiterate its confidence in the legality of the ban on TPO, which is indispensable for preserving the independence of clubs and players and for ensuring the integrity of matches and competitions," said FIFA on 17/03/2016.
