Qatar 2022: FIFA is "fully aware of the risks facing construction workers"

"As mentioned following a previous report by Amnesty International on migrant workers in Qatar published in December 2015, FIFA is fully aware of the risks facing construction workers in Qatar and of the opportunity that FIFA, together with other stakeholders, has to facilitate the improvement of working conditions in the country," said FIFA on 31/03/2016.

"To host the 2022 World Cup, Qatar are developing their infrastructure using migrant workers from Southeast Asia. We investigated the renovation site of one of the World Cup stadiums: the Khalifa International Stadium (pictured). The living conditions of these migrants are disastrous. They contrast shockingly with those of the footballers who will be on the pitch in 2022. The multinationals working there and the countries where they are based must not bury their heads in the sand," said Amnesty International entitled "Qatar: la FIFA hors-jeu" (Qatar: FIFA Offside) on 31/03/2016.
