Starting from the 2016-17 season, Liga BBVA clubs will receive fines if seats in the most visible parts of the stadiums, for TV broadcasts, are left empty, announced Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, on 18/05/2016.

"From next season, there will be an economic penalty for clubs who do not fill stands which are in the view of TV cameras. We need to do something to incentivise clubs so that they no longer tolerate these empty spaces," said Javier Tebas, adding that cumulative fines could be up to €5,000 to €6,000 per match.

This is a measure will be put in place by LaLiga to ensure that broadcasts of the Liga BBVA reflect an image of a championship with high attendance. "Although many people say that our stadiums are empty, the number of spectators is increasing every season. We have attracted more than 3.5 million people to our stadiums in 2015-16," said the president of the Spanish League.
