Ligue 1: Didier Quillot wants neutral operating balance for clubs by 2020 (€350m loss per year now)

The first priority for French football in 2016-17 is "Engaging in the recovery of the economic model of professional football to achieve a neutral operating balance before 2020", announced Didier Quillot, the CEO of the LFP, after the meeting of the League's board of directors in Paris (FRA) on 27/05/2016.

"In the last five years, French professional football has lost €350m in operational costs per year. And had only €70m in net income. The difference between the two, they are two things: the transfers of players that generate added value and the contribution of shareholders in the accounts or via capital increases. So our goal is to establish a recovery plan in our business model so that by 2020, French professional football as a whole reaches an neutral operating balance," said Didier Quillot, on 27/05/2016.

The additional four priorities for 2016-17 are:
• Improve the competition and the spectacle of the championship
• Change the image of professional football
• Digitise and enhance the institution of the League
• Contribute to the unity and solidarity of all professional football…
