Liverpool City Council to renovate Anfield area for €306m

A consortium led by the city of Liverpool and supported by Liverpool FC (7th in the Premier League in 2012/13), are planning an urban regeneration scheme for the area surrounding the Anfield stadium, with a budget of €306m, the council announced on the 24/06/2013.

The plan includes new housing, shops, office buildings, a hotel, the renovation of Stanley Park and the creation of a large pedestrian street and a public square. Liverpool City Council envisage at least 700 new jobs. Residents and local businesses have been invited to participate in various consultations to refine the proposal.

"This is also an important milestone as we seek to investigate the feasibility of expanding our stadium. We will continue this work, which is just one part of the wider Anfield vision, and there is a great deal of work still to be done to bring those plans to fruition," said Ian Ayre, Liverpool FC chairman.

Expanding Anfield requires the acquisition and subsequent demolition of about 90 houses. The club hopes to finalise the purchase of these properties in the summer of 2013 with a view to…
