Rugby: Pat Whelan (IRE) appointed chairman of the Six Nations for the 2017-2020 period

Pat Whelan (IRE) has been appointed chairman of the Six Nations for the 2017 to 2020 period by the Six Nations Committee, announced the organisation on 09/06/2016. The former Irish rugby international (19 caps between 1975 and 1981) was the vice-chairman of the Six Nations, and now replaces Bill Beaumont (now president of World Rugby). John Jeffrey (SCO) was named the new vice-chairman under Pat Whelan.

Pat Whelan has held positions within the Irish rugby administration and as well as that of national team coach from 1995 to 1998. He was also chairman of the Thomond Park Stadium Company Ltd, which manages the rugby stadium in the Irish Province Munster, created in 2008.

William Blackledge Beaumont, known as Bill Beaumont (64 years old), a former England rugby international (34 caps), was unanimously elected chairman of World Rugby by members of the Federation Council, in Dublin (IRE), on 11/05/2016. His term will begin on 01/07/2016.
