Scottish Professional Football League: Neil Doncaster appointed chief executive officer

Neil Doncaster has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the SPFL (Scottish Professional Football League), the Scottish organisation's Remuneration and Appointment Committee announced on the 03/07/2013. The SPFL was formed on the 12/06/2013 as a merger of the SPL (Scottish Premier League, 12 clubs in the first division) and the SFL (Scottish Football League, 30 clubs in divisions 2, 3 and 4).

Doncaster and former SFL chief executive David Longmuir were the only two people in the running for the role.

The 43-year-old Englishman was Premier League side Norwich City FC's chief executive and director of the Football League and the Football Association between 2002 and 2009. Since then Neil Doncaster has been the SPL's chief executive.

Doncaster's most important and pressing task is to secure a sponsor for the new Scottish league with the 2013/14 season starting on the 03/08/2013.
