LFP: a quota for French-trained players is "a fair and equitable measure" (J-M Aulas, O. Lyonnais)

"This is a fair and equitable measure of general interest, which can impose the rules of financial fair play to those who do not comply, without naming names," said Jean-Michel Aulas, chairman of Olympique Lyonnais, about the possible introduction of a quota for players from French training centres implemented in France, on 06/09/2016.

"We have work to do with regards to the number of locally trained players. We discussed this in the Premiere Ligue meeting on 28/06/2016," said Didier Quillot, CEO of the LFP, at the Convention of French Professional Football organised by the Premiere Ligue union of Ligue 1 clubs in Cannes (FRA), on 28 and 29/06/2016.

The Champions League (since 2008-09) as well as the Serie A TIM (since 2015-16, in two phases) have required that at least eight players from the 25-player squad announced early in the season must be locally trained: these eight players are defined as those who have spent at least three years at a club in the same country as the club (Italy for Serie A) between the ages of 16 and 21.
