UEFA: EPFL states process for the reform of the Champions League was "unacceptable"

"The European Leagues believe the way this process has been conducted by UEFA to be unacceptable for an organisation that claims to be the governing body of football in Europe," stated the EPFL, with its board meeting in Amsterdam (NED) on 08/09/2016.

"A major change in European football has been announced without the support and consensus of the organisers of domestic league football in Europe. This decision will have a detrimental impact on domestic competitions and will lead to an exponential growth in the financial and sporting gap between the biggest clubs in Europe and all the others," said the EPFL.

In the new format of the Champions League finalised for the 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21 seasons, the first four clubs of the Top 4 ranked leagues via the UEFA association, or "country", coefficient rankings (currently Spain, Germany, England, and Italy) will be qualify automatically into the group stage of 32 teams, UEFA announced on 26/08/2016.

The reforms also provide for a new key revenue distribution:
• Reducing the share of" market pool" from 40% to 15%;
