"A European Super League would not bring in any more income. It takes a long time to implement and consolidate a brand. We've been working on that at LaLiga over the past few years, but we still have a lot to do. We'll have to work in those parts of the world where the brand has not yet been implemented," said Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, at Sportel Monaco 2016, on 25/10/2016.

Sportel Monaco 2016, a specialised convention of the sports media and content sector, was held from 24 to 27/10/2016 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

"Domestic leagues are deeply rooted and their hold is very difficult to break with projects like European leagues," said Javier Tebas, who added, as an example, that "Liverpool recently played Manchester United (0-0 Matchday 8 of the 2016-17 Premier League on 17/10/2016) at the same time as SD Eibar v CA Osasuna (local Basque derby, 2-3, Matchday 8 of the 2016-17 LaLiga Santander on 17/10/2016). Viewing figures in Spain were higher for the latter."
