Doping: "No organised system in football," according to Michel Platini (Senate Commission)

"According to UEFA's (Union of European Football Associations) president Michel Platini, there is no organised doping in football, but there is nothing stopping players from taking banned substances without their clubs knowing," the Senate commission's inquiry into the effectiveness of the fight against doping indicated in its report, published by the Senate on the 24/07/2013.

Michel Platini was heard in Lausanne (Switzerland) where the Commission was moved to, from the 06/05/ to the 08/05/2013. He was accompanied by Marc Vouillamoz, director of UEFA's Anti-Doping Unit.

"A programme of specific drug tests was put in place for the 2011/12 Champions League. All 32 teams (456 players) were tested during the group stages. 320 drug tests were carried out," UEFA told the Senate commission.

UEFA recorded five tests that returned positive in 2011/12. "Many concerned cannabis and often the younger players," the European body indicated. "The sanctions imposed by UEFA will be in line with the World Anti-Doping Code. Players are aware of the penalties to which they are liable," said the…
