The planning committee of Hammersmith & Fulham Council (London district located west of downtown) has granted permission for the redevelopment of the Stamford Bridge (41,600 seats) site, announced Chelsea FC (Premier League), on 11/01/2017. "The committee decision does not mean that work can begin on site. This is just the latest step, although a significant one, that we have to take before we can commence work, including obtaining various other permissions," added the club.

Chelsea's stadium plan must now be approved by Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, to validate this redevelopment agreement. Work could force Chelsea to play three seasons in another stadium, according to English media. Chelsea would then next need the permission of the nonprofit organisation "Chelsea Pitch Owners" (CPO), owner of the land on which the stadium is located. The CPO, who welcomed the agreement from the district council on 01/11/2017, must also validate the plans for the new stadium at its annual general meeting scheduled in January 2017.
