Racist chants in Italy: €30,000 fine for U.S. Sassuolo and Juventus, €3,000 for Kevin Contant

The FIGC (Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio, the Italian football association) has sentenced U.S. Sassuolo (Serie B champion 2012/13, promoted to Serie A) to a €30,000 fine, on the 01/08/2013, regarding the racist abuse suffered by the Franco-Guinean defender of AC Milan, Kevin Constant.

The incident occurred during the TIM tournament featuring the U.S. Sassuolo, Juventus Turin (Seria A winners in 2012/13) and AC Milan (third in the Serie A in 2012/13), in Reggio Emilia, on the 23/07/2013. Kevin Constant was the target of racist slurs by supporters of Sassuolo. The player reacted in kicking the ball into the stands and left the field.

The Italian Federation, who had opened an investigation on the 25/07/2013, has sanctioned U.S. Sassuolo "for shouts and racist chants of his supporters against a player of an opposing team."

The FIGC have also imposed a €30,000 fine to Juventus for the same facts during the penalty shoot-out between the club and AC Milan.

Kevin Constant was warned by the FIGC and received a €3,000 fine "for kicking the ball in the direction of a group of supporters…
