FIFA TMS: England the country which spent the most on international transfers in 2016 (€1.3bn)

England was the highest spending country in terms of international transfers (a player moving from one national association to another), with $1.373bn (€1.304bn on 31/12/2016) spent in 2016, according to the FIFA TMS in publishing its 2017 Global Transfer Market report, on 27/01/2017. England alone accounts for 28.7% of the total spending on international transfers recorded by the FIFA TMS in 2016 (2016 total: $4.79bn / €4.6bn).

The amount spent by football clubs in England increased by 8.7% compared to 2015 ($1.262bn / €1.161bn on 31/12/2015), a year in which English clubs already had the highest cumulative spending on international transfers, and represented 30.1% of the total (2015 total: $4.19bn / €3.9bn).

After England comes Germany in second, with $576.4m (€547.6m) spent in 2016, an increase of 55.9% compared to 2015 ($369.7m / €340.1m on 31/12/2015).

Russia spent $114.1m (€108.4m) in international transfers in 2016, or 4.8 times more than in 2015 ($23.6m / €21.7m). This was the largest increase among the top 15 countries in terms of spending on international transfers in 2016…
